Before the Ember Dies

Privacy Policy

Effective: 7 October 2026

This privacy policy explains what information Before the Ember Dies (the "Game"), developed and published by Oztamaz Apps ("we", "us"), and the services built into it collect, how it is used, and the choices you have.

1. Information we do not collect

The Game has no accounts of its own. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos or any other personal information. The Game contains no advertising and no in-app purchases, it does not collect your device's advertising identifier, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not sell personal information to anyone.

2. Information stored on your device

Your game progress, your best run and your settings (such as your language and sound volume) are saved on your device. They may be included in your device's own backup (Google backup on Android, iCloud on iOS), which is under your account and control. Uninstalling the Game deletes this data from the device.

3. Google Play Games, Apple Game Center and cloud saves

If you sign in to Google Play Games (Android) or Apple Game Center (iOS), the Game uses these services for its leaderboard and achievements. The platform shares with the Game your player ID and the player name and picture you chose there. The Game sends your best scores and play times, and your progress towards achievements, to the service; leaderboard entries, with your player name and picture, are visible to other players.

To carry your progress over to your other devices, the Game keeps a copy of your progress, best run and achievement progress in your cloud storage: in Google Play Games' saved games on Android (when you are signed in), and in your iCloud account on iOS. This copy contains game data only, nothing that identifies you.

These services are provided by Google and Apple under their own privacy policies: Google Privacy Policy, Apple Privacy Policy. You can play without signing in, and you can manage or delete this data in your Google Play Games, Game Center or iCloud settings.

4. Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase), only if you agree

When you first open the Game, it asks whether you want to share usage statistics. Only if you agree does it use Google Analytics for Firebase, to help us understand how the Game is played and improve it. You can change your choice at any time in the Game's Settings ("Usage statistics"); nothing is sent while it is off. If you agree, the Game records:

  • Game events, such as the prologue being watched, a run starting and ending (how it ended, the stars earned, its length), upgrades bought, keepsakes found, achievements earned and leaderboard sign-ins.
  • Basic information about the app and your device: app version, device model, operating system and version, language, approximate country or region, and when and for how long the Game is used.
  • A random app instance ID, created when the Game is installed, which lets these events be counted per installation, and on iOS the identifier your device gives the apps of one developer (identifier for vendor). Neither is linked to your name, account or advertising identifier; the app instance ID changes if you reinstall the Game.

We look at this information as totals and trends, not to follow any one player. Learn more: How Google uses information from apps that use its services and Privacy and Security in Firebase.

5. Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the Game crashes or runs into an error, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a report so that we can fix it. A report contains technical information only: where in the Game the problem happened, the app version, device model, operating system and version, the state of the device at the time (such as free memory and orientation), and a random installation ID that lets us see how many installations a problem affects.

6. How information is used

Information is used only to run the Game's features described above (the leaderboard, achievements and cloud saves), to understand how the Game is played, and to find and fix problems. We do not use it to identify you, to show you ads, or to build a profile of you. Where the law of your country requires a legal basis (for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), usage statistics rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings; crash reports, the leaderboard, achievements and cloud saves rely on our legitimate interest in providing a working Game and the features you choose to use.

7. Data retention and deletion

  • Data on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the Game.
  • Google Play Games, Game Center and iCloud data is kept by Google or Apple until you delete it in their settings.
  • Usage statistics are kept event by event for up to 14 months, and after that only as totals in reports; crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
  • Usage statistics and crash reports are not linked to you, so we cannot find the ones that come from your device. Reinstalling the Game starts it afresh with a new random ID. For any question about your data, email us at the address below; we will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

Information sent by these services travels over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

9. Children

The Game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Game, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Game changes, for example if advertising or purchases are added. Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date.
